What's it about?

Next year it will be 50 years since my Dad, and a collection of mates, undertook a marathon ride on a fleet of little Hondas (C110).  Covering 600 miles in 24hrs they navigated over a prescribed course, on bikes capable of only 45mph...flatout...downhill...with a tailwind.

The event they entered was the 1964 ACU National Road Rally, an annual challenge that riders undertake on all sorts of machines, in teams or as individuals.  They successfully nursed the little bikes through 24hrs of mechanical torture.  Dad and a couple of the others achieved Gold Awards for their efforts, with the team coming in second overall.

Back to the present day and Dad is now fighting advanced prostate cancer.  I'd been scratching my head about what to do to raise some funds and, more importantly, awareness of this illness.

When I realised that 2014 would be 50 years since Dad completed the rally on the little Honda it seemed obvious, buy the same model of bike, restore it, complete the 2014 rally and then sell the bike with the sale price of the bike going to Prostate Cancer UK.

The purpose of this blog is to record the restoration, so I can share it with Dad and others, but also to help in raising awareness of this illness.  Ultimately I plan to update the blog during the rally as well, so that my progress can be tracked.
